CareerWise 2011 – A Career Workshop for Library Professionals

Join us for CareerWise 2011, a career focused workshop for librarians and information professionals in all fields, as well as graduate students. This workshop will include three exciting programs:

—A panel of professionals from academic, public and special libraries will share advice for resumes, cover letters and interviews, and provide insight into job trends and essential skills.(Speakers: Tiffany Allen, UNC Libraries, Mariel Christian, RTI International and Kim Hailey, City of Greensboro Public Libraries)
—A representative from Belk will share trends and provide suggestions for professional attire and creating a professional image. (Speaker: Ellen Shlom, Belk – Friendly Center)
—A presentation on using social media for professional networking...this is not your teenager’s Facebook! (Speakers: Mary Scanlon, Z. Smith Reynolds Library – Wake Forest University and Katherine Makens, Durham County Public Libraries)

At this event, we will be collecting 100% cotton t-shirts for Sweet Cheeks Diaper Kits, a non-profit organization that provides low-income families in the NC Triad area with FREE cloth diapers and supplies. Your old t-shirts will be recycled and turned into cloth diapers for families in need!

MLA Webcast April 20 - Host site in Winston-Salem

The Novant Health Libraries will be a host site for the April 20, 2011
Medical Library Association (MLA) Webcast: "Shifting Skills to Navigate the
Changing Horizon". The webcast will be shown in the FMC Conference
Center located at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.

This program will introduce emerging trends in biomedical research and
healthcare environments that present new opportunities for information
professionals
in terms of partnership, collaboration, and support.
These include: translational science, e-science, and electronic health
records
, all of which will offer new and expanded roles for information
professionals in the management, sharing and integration of data; with
respect to new models for scholarly publication; as well as exploring
new ways to collaborate with Clinical and Translational Science Award
centers and their constituents. All provide new opportunities to help
educate health and information technology professionals in the
meaningful use of health information via electronic health record
systems
.

earn an additional 1.5 MLA CE. There is no charge to attend.
